Discover Health and Harmony with Functional Medicine from Dr. Erica Oberg

Naturopathic Doctor in Spring Valley, CA

Have you ever been to a primary care doctor and wondered why they focus on treating symptoms instead of addressing the root cause of your illness? Rather than take a patient-centered approach to address questions like, “Why are you ill?” they prescribe medications that alleviate symptoms but don’t do much to solve the underlying issue that’s causing you to be sick.

When you have a runny nose, you’re handed an antihistamine. When you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, you’re prescribed a pill that treats the number. The truth is that this approach only tackles your symptoms. When the root cause isn’t fixed, your symptoms can get exponentially worse. Remember - your body’s dysfunction isn’t due to your meds not working.

This begs the question: Wouldn't you rather address the underlying cause of your health concerns so you can experience long-term relief? As a naturopathic doctor in Spring Valley, CA, Dr. Erica Oberg takes a functional approach to medicine and well-being instead of treating the symptoms her patients endure.

Hormone Balance Program

As people get older, many things change in life. Often, those changes are good, like having more self-control, financial freedom, and patience. Others are hard to deal with, especially when they're out of our control. Like all things in life, our hormones change when we get older. These fluctuations can cause problems for both men and women, including:

  • Mood Swings
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Sleep Problems
  • Less Bone Density
  • More Fat Around Midsection
Fresno Holistic Medicine Spring Valley, CA

If those symptoms sound familiar, you're not alone. A 2019 American Psychological Association survey found that almost half of women aged 30 to 60 in the US have experienced symptoms of a hormonal imbalance. Of course, as men age, they suffer from imbalanced hormones, too. Research from BodyLogicMD states that nearly 38% of males in America aged 45 and older have a testosterone deficiency.

The good news is that balancing your hormones and addressing the root cause of your symptoms doesn’t have to be hard. It’s a realistic goal with Dr. Oberg by your side. As a functional medicine doctor in Spring Valley, CA, she can help your body metabolize and detoxify both your own hormones and the endocrine-disrupting chemicals infiltrating your life. When your hormones are in harmony, you experience improved energy, mood, and overall health – and that’s something to be excited about.

Tips

Tips and Tools

We provide a range of practical strategies and tips for regulating hormone balance through your nervous system. These techniques aim to empower you to take control of your well-being.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Testosterone Replacement Therapy, or Growth Hormone Therapy Balancing Program

When appropriate, we’ll prescribe you hormone replacement therapy (HRT), testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), or growth hormone peptide therapy to help balance your hormones.

At our functional medical office, we make it a point to correct the root causes of our patient's problems. We don't treat symptoms - but we do use them to figure out the underlying issues you're facing. If you notice any of the following symptoms, it could be time to consider HRT.

Three Signs That a Male's Hormones Are Imbalanced

When you mention hormone replacement therapy, most people think the treatment is exclusively for females going through menopause. While that's partially true - HRT can relieve night sweats, hot flashes, and other menopause-related problems - men also deal with imbalanced hormones.

Testosterone plays a crucial role in male sexual health. Low levels can result in decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, and other sexual performance issues. Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection may be a sign of imbalanced hormones or low testosterone levels.

When your sleep patterns change - like when you have trouble falling or staying asleep - it could be a sign of a hormone imbalance. Testosterone is involved in regulating the sleep cycle, and insufficient levels of it can disrupt quality rest.

Imbalances in hormones can affect mental health and mood. If a man shows signs of irritability, mood swings, or depression, it could indicate low testosterone or other hormonal issues. Hormone replacement therapy can help regulate mood by balancing your hormone levels.

Three Signs a Female's Hormones are Imbalanced

Menopause happens when a woman has not had a menstrual cycle for at least 12 consecutive months. It is a result of declining sex hormone levels, causing the ovaries to stop releasing egg cells. During menopause, women face a range of challenges.

Testosterone plays a crucial role in male sexual health. Low levels can result in decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, and other sexual performance issues. Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection may be a sign of imbalanced hormones or low testosterone levels.

Irregular menstrual cycles are a common sign that women are nearing menopause, and their hormone levels may be shifting. The frequency of their periods may increase or decrease, and the amount of bleeding could be more or less than usual, while also lasting for a shorter or longer time.

Hot flashes are perhaps the most well-known symptom of menopause and a frequent sign that a woman's hormones are imbalanced. Hot flashes are sudden feelings of warmth and sweating that are usually most intense on your face, neck, and chest.

Don't let hormone imbalances dictate your life. Take the first step towards reclaiming your balance, energy, and vitality. By working together with Dr. Oberg and her team, you can unlock the path to a healthier, more harmonious you.

Fresno Alternative Medicine Spring Valley, CA

What is Personalized IV Therapy from Dr. Oberg?

Customized IV therapy from Dr. Oberg is all about tailoring your treatment to meet your health goals and needs. Unlike one-size-fits-all IV clinics, our team considers factors like nutrient deficiencies, hydration levels, and overall health to create a customized infusion. This personalized approach gives you better and more applicable results, whether you're looking to get a boost of energy, fortify your immune system, or get relief from a specific ailment.

Your custom IV therapy begins with a consultation with Dr. Oberg. During your initial meeting, we’ll get a better sense of what your brain and body needs. From there, we’ll create a custom infusion for you – not just a formula that matches your height, weight, and age.

Our IV drip therapy menu includes infusions such as:

  • Detox
  • Forever Young
  • Beauty from Within
  • Immune Boost
  • Cardio Tonic
  • Rehydrate and Rebalance
  • Performance and Recovery
  • NAD+
  • Exosomes
  • Custom IV Infusions

Does IV Therapy Really Help?

IV therapy is considered one of the best ways to get the nutrients and immune-boosting goodness your body needs because it gives you a more direct, efficient means of delivery. Unlike oral supplement, which often falls short due to digestive limitations, IV therapy ensures swift and comprehensive nutrient absorption. Some of the biggest benefits of IV therapy from a functional medicine doctor in Spring Valley, CA include the following:

IV fluids and electrolytes rapidly hydrate your body, providing an efficient remedy for dehydration resulting from illness, physical activity, or excessive alcohol intake.

IV treatment is able to increase energy and fight tiredness, which can make you feel re-energized.

IV infusions containing immune-enhancing vitamins and antioxidants can fortify your immune system and assist in recovering from illness.

IV therapy containing growth factors, exosomes, and vitamins is effective in improving the health and appearance of the skin and hair. These components complement hair and facial microneedling treatments exceptionally well.

IV therapy can help reduce the symptoms of toxic exposure, like headaches, nausea, fatigue, and dehydration, whether it's from a basic hangover or prolonged exposure to molds, heavy metals, or other toxins.

Dr. Oberg’s personalized IV infusions can serve as an initial boost for making lifestyle changes and play a role in a sustained plan to control persistent conditions like diabetes, autoimmune disorders, cancer, heart disease, and others.

Support Mitochondria function and Anti-aging

Dr. Oberg offers carefully sourced and research backed regenerative therapies such as exosome and stem cell infusions. These can be powerful options for people recovering from chronic infections such as long COVID or Epstein Barr or Lyme. They are also powerful for neuro-regeneration and we frequently use them in stroke recovery and for traumatic brain injury.

Texas A&M is in good position to land 2026 5-star ATH out of Spring Valley (CA)

Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class will begin to take shape next summer. The 2024 football season poses a great opportunity for head coach Mike Elko, who will host several critical offensive prospects during the Aggies' season opener vs. Notre Dame next Saturday.

Late last week, Rivals insider Landyn Rosow revealed that 5-star athlete Brandon Arrington will join 4-star wide receivers Brayden Robinson and Aaron Gregory in College Station for the opener while visiting the facilities as well.

Arrington is by far one of the quickest and most versatile athletes in the 2026 cycle. During his last two high school seasons, he played both wide receiver and cornerback, excelling at both positions.

Where do the Aggies stand in his recruitment? In a recent interview with On3's Chad Simmons, the incoming junior stated:

“I like everything about Texas A&M. The staff and everybody is on me and they told me I’m their No. 1 target right now and they show it. I will be at Texas A&M a lot this year.”

During his 2023 sophomore season, Arrington recorded 310 receiving yards, four touchdowns on offense, 25 tackles on defense, and a punt return touchdown on special teams.

Arrington's borderline elite athletic profile shows a player constantly outrunning coverage, whether beating man coverage off the snap or evading linebackers on reverse handoffs, long-striding his way to the endzone.

Knowing that he'll witness what the new Texas A&M coaching staff offers on the field next weekend, Arrington will have a much clearer view of his future fit with the program.

As you drive along streets in the Spring Valley neighborhood of San Diego County there are homeless encampments scattered about. Those encampments are causing concern for many people in the community.

“Recently we’ve been getting more and more encampments everywhere,” Spring Valley resident Julia Wolfe said.

People in the community said it is an added burden to clean up the trash that is being created and there are safety concerns.

“There’s grown men and people living on our streets like right next to our homes. It’s very loud, it’s aggressive. They hang signs with profanity and vulgarity they block up the sidewalks so in some areas nobody can walk past them anymore. Families can’t go on walks, wheelchairs aren’t accessible and then on top of that, everybody leaves their trash,” Wolfe said.

Wolfe said she has reached out to local departments for help.

“I’ve done everyone I can think of, San Diego County, CalTrans. I’ve reached out to the sheriff, which they actually respond but there’s really nothing they can do to help,” Wolfe said.

In a statement to NBC 7, The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said the following.

“Like all California law enforcement agencies, the Sheriff’s Office faces numerous challenges in addressing these encampments. Some of the key issues include; balancing the need to enforce laws and maintain public safety with the need to protect the rights of unhoused individuals, navigating complex legal frameworks that govern the removal of encampments, dealing with limited resources and access to treatment and services, and addressing the underlying causes of homelessness such as mental illness, substance abuse, and lack of affordable local housing. Additionally, we must also contend with criticism when enforcing laws related to those experiencing homelessness. These challenges highlight the complex and multifaceted nature of the homeless crisis in our state and region and the difficulties all law enforcement face in addressing it effectively.”

Some residents said they’re contemplating relocating because of the encampments near their home.

“I don’t want to leave but sometimes I think about it. I just want to get away and get to a place where I don’t see this,” resident Elise Rodriguez said.

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) — The Spring Valley community members, already pushing back on tiny homes for those experiencing homelessness, are now fighting against a new safe parking site.

Residents say they feel left out of the conversation that made these plans.

However, they made sure their voices were heard at a community meeting that happened Wednesday evening.

“I want transparency. I want answers,” said Stefanie Becker, a Spring Valley resident.

Becker is not the only one. She helped organize the Spring Valley community meeting so people who feel like her can ask their questions.

“All of a sudden, there was a parking lot, a safe parking lot that nobody heard anything about,” said Becker

The Spring Valley Community Church was filled with dozens of neighbors who were also in the dark about the new safe parking lot.

With the church's pastor answering the heated questions he once had himself.

“I started out as a skeptic when I first heard about it. This is ideal for those kids who are living in vehicles, who can get into a housing situation but need a little help. The safe parking lot itself has a 24/7 security guard even when folks aren't here on site,” said Pastor Steve Babbitt.

The County of San Diego is leasing the land from the church. The County invested $3.7 million in the safe parking site, which will cost just under $1 million yearly to run.

Residents' main concerns were loitering between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., when the lot was closed and the vetting of those staying at the site.

“Well, 7 a.m., where are they going?” asked Becker.

The safe parking site will prioritize unhoused elderly people and children. Twenty-seven families can park there overnight.

Some residents are hesitant despite the vetting, while others are hopeful for change.

“My first impression was all right! You know, this is a situation where we have a solution,” said Barulio Sanabria with the Spring Valley Community Alliance.

The neighbors who live near the safe parking site didn't want to go on camera but said they had dealt with unhoused people throwing clothes and trash in their yard before the safe parking site was in place.

Now, they hope there will be a difference with new fences, security, and a new lot.

Updated: These 75 California Big Lots stores are closing. Here's what to know

...

Seventy-five California Big Lots will close as the company struggles with a challenging consumer market.

In an early July filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the discount retailer said it planned to close 35 to 40 stores this year and open three. The company reported 1,392 operating stores at the start of 2024, down from 1,425 in the first quarter of 2023.

“In 2024, the U.S. economy has continued to face macroeconomic challenges, including elevated inflation, which has adversely impacted the buying power of our customers,” the filing from Big Lots said.

Here's what to know about the Big Lots closures and which California stores are closing.

These California Big Lots stores are closing

California has 109 Big Lots stores, second only to Texas (116) in the nation. According to its website, the discount chain has locations all over California, including three in Fresno, the most in one city in the state.

The following 48 California Big Lots locations had a banner on the website indicating the location would close and shoppers could receive up to 20% off:

Why is Big Lots closing?

Like many others, the retailer has grappled with declining sales amid rising prices and a downturn in consumer spending. According to the financial disclosure, sales dropped 10.2% between the first quarters of 2023 and 2024, equating to a loss of about $114.5 million.

The company also took on an additional $72.2 million, bringing the total from $501.6 million in the first quarter of 2023 to $573.8 million for the first quarter of this year. The company also said it had "substantial doubt" about its ability to continue operating, leading to speculation of a potential bankruptcy filing.
