Naturopathic Doctor Near Solana Beach, CA

Have you ever been to a primary care doctor and wondered why they focus on treating symptoms instead of addressing the root cause of your illness? Rather than take a patient-centered approach to address questions like, “Why are you ill?” they prescribe medications that alleviate symptoms but don’t do much to solve the underlying issue that’s causing you to be sick.

When you have a runny nose, you’re handed an antihistamine. When you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, you’re prescribed a pill that treats the number. The truth is that this approach only tackles your symptoms. When the root cause isn’t fixed, your symptoms can get exponentially worse. Remember - your body’s dysfunction isn’t due to your meds not working.

This begs the question: Wouldn't you rather address the underlying cause of your health concerns so you can experience long-term relief? As a naturopathic doctor in Solana Beach, CA, Dr. Erica Oberg takes a functional approach to medicine and well-being instead of treating the symptoms her patients endure.

Hormone Balance Program

As people get older, many things change in life. Often, those changes are good, like having more self-control, financial freedom, and patience. Others are hard to deal with, especially when they're out of our control. Like all things in life, our hormones change when we get older. These fluctuations can cause problems for both men and women, including:

  • Mood Swings
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Sleep Problems
  • Less Bone Density
  • More Fat Around Midsection
Fresno Holistic Medicine Solana Beach, CA

If those symptoms sound familiar, you're not alone. A 2019 American Psychological Association survey found that almost half of women aged 30 to 60 in the US have experienced symptoms of a hormonal imbalance. Of course, as men age, they suffer from imbalanced hormones, too. Research from BodyLogicMD states that nearly 38% of males in America aged 45 and older have a testosterone deficiency.

The good news is that balancing your hormones and addressing the root cause of your symptoms doesn’t have to be hard. It’s a realistic goal with Dr. Oberg by your side. As a functional medicine doctor in Solana Beach, CA, she can help your body metabolize and detoxify both your own hormones and the endocrine-disrupting chemicals infiltrating your life. When your hormones are in harmony, you experience improved energy, mood, and overall health – and that’s something to be excited about.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Testosterone Replacement Therapy, or Growth Hormone Therapy Balancing Program

When appropriate, we’ll prescribe you hormone replacement therapy (HRT), testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), or growth hormone peptide therapy to help balance your hormones.

At our functional medical office, we make it a point to correct the root causes of our patient's problems. We don't treat symptoms - but we do use them to figure out the underlying issues you're facing. If you notice any of the following symptoms, it could be time to consider HRT.

Three Signs That a Male's Hormones Are Imbalanced

When you mention hormone replacement therapy, most people think the treatment is exclusively for females going through menopause. While that's partially true - HRT can relieve night sweats, hot flashes, and other menopause-related problems - men also deal with imbalanced hormones.

Testosterone plays a crucial role in male sexual health. Low levels can result in decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, and other sexual performance issues. Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection may be a sign of imbalanced hormones or low testosterone levels.

When your sleep patterns change - like when you have trouble falling or staying asleep - it could be a sign of a hormone imbalance. Testosterone is involved in regulating the sleep cycle, and insufficient levels of it can disrupt quality rest.

Imbalances in hormones can affect mental health and mood. If a man shows signs of irritability, mood swings, or depression, it could indicate low testosterone or other hormonal issues. Hormone replacement therapy can help regulate mood by balancing your hormone levels.

Three Signs a Female's Hormones are Imbalanced

Menopause happens when a woman has not had a menstrual cycle for at least 12 consecutive months. It is a result of declining sex hormone levels, causing the ovaries to stop releasing egg cells. During menopause, women face a range of challenges.

Irregular menstrual cycles are a common sign that women are nearing menopause, and their hormone levels may be shifting. The frequency of their periods may increase or decrease, and the amount of bleeding could be more or less than usual, while also lasting for a shorter or longer time.

Hot flashes are perhaps the most well-known symptom of menopause and a frequent sign that a woman's hormones are imbalanced. Hot flashes are sudden feelings of warmth and sweating that are usually most intense on your face, neck, and chest.

Don't let hormone imbalances dictate your life. Take the first step towards reclaiming your balance, energy, and vitality. By working together with Dr. Oberg and her team, you can unlock the path to a healthier, more harmonious you.

Personalized IV Therapy

Fresno Alternative Medicine Solana Beach, CA

What is Personalized IV Therapy from Dr. Oberg?

Customized IV therapy from Dr. Oberg is all about tailoring your treatment to meet your health goals and needs. Unlike one-size-fits-all IV clinics, our team considers factors like nutrient deficiencies, hydration levels, and overall health to create a customized infusion. This personalized approach gives you better and more applicable results, whether you're looking to get a boost of energy, fortify your immune system, or get relief from a specific ailment.

Your custom IV therapy begins with a consultation with Dr. Oberg. During your initial meeting, we’ll get a better sense of what your brain and body needs. From there, we’ll create a custom infusion for you – not just a formula that matches your height, weight, and age.

Our IV drip therapy menu includes infusions such as:

  • Detox
  • Forever Young
  • Beauty from Within
  • Immune Boost
  • Cardio Tonic
  • Rehydrate and Rebalance
  • Performance and Recovery
  • NAD+
  • Exosomes
  • Custom IV Infusions

Does IV Therapy Really Help?

IV therapy is considered one of the best ways to get the nutrients and immune-boosting goodness your body needs because it gives you a more direct, efficient means of delivery. Unlike oral supplement, which often falls short due to digestive limitations, IV therapy ensures swift and comprehensive nutrient absorption. Some of the biggest benefits of IV therapy from a functional medicine doctor in Solana Beach, CA include the following:

IV fluids and electrolytes rapidly hydrate your body, providing an efficient remedy for dehydration resulting from illness, physical activity, or excessive alcohol intake.

IV treatment is able to increase energy and fight tiredness, which can make you feel re-energized.

IV infusions containing immune-enhancing vitamins and antioxidants can fortify your immune system and assist in recovering from illness.

IV therapy containing growth factors, exosomes, and vitamins is effective in improving the health and appearance of the skin and hair. These components complement hair and facial microneedling treatments exceptionally well.

IV therapy can help reduce the symptoms of toxic exposure, like headaches, nausea, fatigue, and dehydration, whether it's from a basic hangover or prolonged exposure to molds, heavy metals, or other toxins.

Dr. Oberg’s personalized IV infusions can serve as an initial boost for making lifestyle changes and play a role in a sustained plan to control persistent conditions like diabetes, autoimmune disorders, cancer, heart disease, and others.

Support Mitochondria function and Anti-aging

Dr. Oberg offers carefully sourced and research backed regenerative therapies such as exosome and stem cell infusions. These can be powerful options for people recovering from chronic infections such as long COVID or Epstein Barr or Lyme. They are also powerful for neuro-regeneration and we frequently use them in stroke recovery and for traumatic brain injury.

Their main function is to trigger healing, regeneration, and repair processes, mimicking the actions of younger cells. Colosseo, a new Italian-inspired restaurant, is getting ready to open in Solana Beach at 945 Lomas Santa Fe Drive.

The restaurant is set to move into the former home of Pizza Nova in the Loma Santa Fe Plaza, according to a recent liquor license application submitted by owner Roberto Ciacciofera. While an official opening date has not been announced, customers can expect a menu featuring Italian classics and elevated dishes, with a focus on fresh ingredients and handcrafted recipes.

Ciacciofera brings over 10 years of experience in restaurants, events, and catering. He previously partnered to open R & G Salumeria Wine Bar in Little Italy, and also founded Dolce Vita Events, which emphasizes memorable dining experiences and personal hospitality. “I am inspired daily by my love for life, family and friends, my job, and the people I have yet to meet in this Dolce Vita,” Ciacciofera shared on his personal website.

The Solana Beach restaurant marks Ciacciofera’s first restaurant in the North County area. The Loma Santa Fe Plaza space offers visibility along a popular commercial corridor, providing a mix of indoor and potential patio seating. Menu highlights are expected to include handcrafted pastas, wood-fired pizzas, and traditional Italian entrees, alongside curated wine and cocktail selections. Guests will likely experience a combination of casual dining with the option for more elevated meals, continuing Ciacciofera’s focus on approachable yet memorable experiences.

Roberto Ciacciofera has previously worked on projects emphasizing quality ingredients, thoughtful menus, and hospitality-driven concepts. He recently worked with Alberto Morreale earlier this year to open Piedra Santa, a new Argentinian steakhouse in Little Italy, where he developed dishes such as dry-aged steaks and Parrilladas that reflect his culinary approach and commitment to creating signature dining experiences. Colosseo is expected to bring a similar balance of flavor, comfort, and Italian flair to Solana Beach.

Dave’s Hot Chicken, a Nashville-style hot chicken restaurant, is getting ready to open in Solana Beach at 905 Lomas Santa Fe Drive.

The company’s new location is set to move into the former Einstein’s Bagels at Loma Santa Fe Plaza, according to permit filings submitted to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. While an exact opening date has not been announced, the restaurant will be operated by franchise owners Lawrence Kourie, Deryl Pangelinan, and Loralin Acoba. Customers can expect the brand’s signature spicy fried chicken sandwiches, tenders, and sides, served in a casual, fast-casual environment.

The Solana Beach Dave’s Hot Chicken will be run by franchise partners Kourie, Pangelinan, and Acoba, who already operate locations in Pacific Beach, El Cajon, Escondido, and more. Their expansion in San Diego emphasizes consistent food quality, community engagement, and the brand’s signature menu of customizable spice levels, classic sides, seasonal specials, and quick-service options for dine-in and takeout.

Founded in 2017 as a Los Angeles pop-up, Dave’s Hot Chicken has grown into a global brand and was acquired in 2025 by Roark Capital, which also owns Subway and other major franchise groups. Kourie confirmed that the Solana Beach site is one of its franchise locations, reflecting the brand’s continued regional growth and strong local demand following the Roark acquisition.

Dave’s Hot Chicken will join a handful of other food-forward tenants at Lomas Santa Fe Plaza, including Habit Burger Grill, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Primos Mexican Food, Samurai Restaurant, Starbucks, and soon-to-open Colosseo, an Italian-inspired restaurant taking over the former Pizza Nova space.

Among these is Our Green Affair Cafe, a vibrant, health-forward eatery that is open and continuing business as usual. The cafe is beloved for sourcing high-quality, seasonal ingredients and crafting dishes that deliver both exceptional flavor and wellness value. With easy online ordering and a full catering program for special events, Our Green Affair brings freshness, creativity, and community-minded dining to Solana Beach.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Dave’s Hot Chicken would replace Our Green Affair Cafe, which was incorrect. Our Green Affair Cafe is still open and in business.

The opening of Lana marks a significant addition to Solana Beach’s dining scene, bringing together seasoned industry veterans and impressive culinary pedigree.

This Solana Beach restaurant creates something we haven’t seen in the area—elevated California cuisine that feels both sophisticated and genuinely welcoming through the collaboration between owners Travis LeGrand and Mark Wheadon with consulting executive chef David McIntyre.

Chef McIntyre’s Homecoming

McIntyre’s return to San Diego after 14 years in London brings serious credentials to the kitchen. His background at Spago and CUT at 45 Park Lane translates into a menu that understands both technique and local ingredients.

Working alongside Chef de Cuisine Matt Martinez, whose experience at Cowboy Star and AVANT adds expertise with char and smoke, the team has created something that feels distinctly Southern California.

The menu reads like a love letter to the region’s best ingredients. Local Halibut Ceviche and fire-roasted Jumbo Baja Prawns showcase our coastal access, while dishes like Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle and Prime Beef Steak Tartare demonstrate the kitchen’s technical skill.

The Baked Mt. Tam Cheese from Cowgirl Creamery offers a clever nod to McIntyre’s London years while celebrating California’s artisanal cheese scene.

Wood-Fired Advantages

The team smartly leveraged the space’s existing wood-fired pizza oven, inherited from the location’s previous life as California Pizza Kitchen. Rather than just making pizza, they’re using it for everything from Organic Half Chicken to creative flatbreads like their Fennel Sausage version with scamorza, pickled chili, and oregano.

This approach shows how experienced chefs can transform existing infrastructure into something more dynamic.

The brunch program extends this fire-focused approach with items like the wood-fired Morning Harvest Flatbread alongside more traditional offerings like Grilled Flat Iron Steak & Eggs and Tres Leches Brioche French Toast.

Thoughtful Beverage Program

Bar Manager Brandon Curry has developed a cocktail menu that mirrors the kitchen’s ingredient-driven philosophy. Drinks like the Pony Boy with gin, cucumber, pink peppercorn, and lime show creativity without being overly complex.

The spirit-free options, including I’ve Come to the Right Place Then with Feragaia, lime, and ginger, demonstrate attention to non-drinking guests.

The wine program benefits from Wheadon’s industry expertise, focusing on small, sustainable California producers from the Central Coast, Napa, and Sonoma. The emphasis on regenerative and organic farming practices aligns with the restaurant’s overall ingredient philosophy.

Coastal Design Aesthetic

Workind Studio created a 5,000-square-foot space that captures California coastal relaxation without feeling forced. The large central bar anchors the restaurant, with the main dining room, front lounge area, and outdoor patio creating different experiences within the same venue.

Cherry and walnut finishes with comfortable upholstered booths strike that difficult balance between modern and timeless.

See you there!

Lana’s opening brings elevated California cuisine and expert execution to Solana Beach with genuine neighborhood appeal and coastal sophistication.

CTZN Tapas Bar & Restaurant is serving up something we’ve never really had here before, and their new guest experience feels like discovering a hidden corner of Europe right on Highway 101.

Siblings Willy and Karine took their French heritage, mixed it with inspiration from a Boston tapas bar, and created this love letter to Basque cuisine that’s got us planning our next dinner out.

The Story Behind the Flavors

Here’s what’s cool about CTZN—it’s not just another tapas place trying to do Spanish food. After traveling through the Basque region that straddles Southwest France and Northern Spain, Willy and Karine came back with this deep appreciation for how food brings people together there.

They wanted to capture that spirit of celebration and community that makes Basque culture so special.

The name CTZN (pronounced “citizen”) is all about belonging and cultural connection, while “ba bidaia” means “the journey” in Basque. Basically, every meal here is supposed to feel like an adventure, which honestly sounds way more interesting than your typical dinner out.

Chef Matthew Crawford Knows His Way Around Fire

The kitchen is led by Matthew Crawford, who’s got this incredible background that makes perfect sense for what they’re doing. Fifteen years of culinary experience, time working on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard where he got into foraging and local sourcing, plus a love for open-fire cooking that shows up in everything he makes.

His style is California Modern with New England influences, but now he’s channeling all that into Basque traditions. The guy’s philosophy is that cooking is a universal language and shared meals are opportunities to bring people together and celebrate the stories behind the food.

That’s exactly the kind of chef you want interpreting a cuisine that’s all about community and celebration.

Basque Meets West Coast Creativity

They worked with Chef Juan Gonzalez from Mesa Agrícola to develop a menu that stays true to Basque cooking while adding that modern edge. We’re talking about a cuisine that’s been an international force but hasn’t really had proper representation here in San Diego.

The Basque region has this incredibly welcoming culture and amazing landscapes that translate into bold flavors and rich traditions.

What they’re doing is taking those time-honored Basque rituals and reimagining them with California creativity. Each dish and drink is supposed to tell a story about the region and take you on this immersive sensory voyage through Basque Country.

That’s a pretty ambitious goal, but when you’ve got the passion and the right team, it actually works.

Pintxo Hour is Where It’s At

Tuesday through Friday, they’re doing Pintxo Hour, which is basically the Basque version of happy hour. Pintxos are those small plates that are perfect for sharing and trying a bunch of different flavors without committing to one big dish.

It’s the ideal way to experience what they’re doing, especially if you’re new to Basque cuisine.

See you there!

CTZN Tapas Bar & Restaurant proves that the best new guest experience sometimes comes from bringing distant traditions to familiar places.
